An aspect of French Surrealism was the tolerance of sexuality explicit material from the subconscious, usually a result of the non-filtering of thought in automatism. Kitasono, Nishiwaki, and most of the other Japanese Surrealists, however, rarely referred to genitals or sex. One exception is the line, “I lick virgin Cleopatra's vagina”from an Ueda Toshio poem. Perhaps Toshio's Cleopatra is a “Virgin” because his consciousness of women was limited to the madonna or prostitute syndrome, desiring women to be both chaste and lusty. Nevertheless Toshio was at least liberated enough not to edit out such messages.“I lick virgin Cleopatra's vagina”という一文は性器に言及しているというのは事実といえるが、"Perhaps"（恐らく）以降の文は筆者の想像または感想でしかなく根拠は述べられていない。
『衣装の太陽』の原文を読むと、該当する一文の前後は下記である。
処女クレオパトラは金属製のorganes sexuels を持った蚕である暖まつた天使は世界の驚異でありました 私は処女クレオパトラのvaginaを舐めます赤い飛行船の上の少女クレオパトラを抱いた赤い色の天使は瞞着する最も愛らしい天使です作品の読み方や解釈は読み手の自由だ。自分が原文を読まない限り他人の感想文のみ頭に残ることになる可能性がある。私はそれは嫌である。
